Call for Content: 2021 Virtual Midyear Meeting

For 2021, the NSGIC Midyear Meeting has been reimagined. This year, the virtual meeting will span three days, running from February 23 to 25. Tuesday (2/23) and Thursday (2/25) will be filled with a total of five workshops (two hours each) with substantive and productive discussions facilitated by NSGIC leaders. Wednesday (2/24) will be the Innovation Summit focused entirely on emerging technologies and trends coming down the pike for state GIS. And of course, it wouldn’t be a NSGIC event without lots of fun and networking sprinkled throughout.

Abstracts are due on Tuesday, January 19 (midnight ET)

Going Virtual - Successful Presentations

Speakers will need to tailor presentations to the virtual format. For this reason, the Conference Committee requests that all potential presenters submit a two-minute video abstract. This is the perfect opportunity to showcase your virtual presence with the selection committee; successful presentations will be high-energy and engaging. The NSGIC Conference Committee will be providing additional guidance and working with speakers in the coming months to ensure presentations will be successful in the virtual format.

The Conference Committee will be considering the following in its selection process:

  • Relevance to the meeting objectives

  • Quality of presentation content ascertained from abstract

  • Level of originality, bringing new perspectives, approaches, or evidence

  • Significance of contribution to the field

  • Oral presentation and delivery skills of presenter

  • Plans to engage the audience (workshop only)

  • Impactfulness of the stated outcome or product (workshop only)

Presentation Types

Innovation Summit:

  • Each Innovation Summit presentation will be limited to 30 minutes with an additional 15 minutes for chat-based Q&A. Five Innovation Summit presentations will be selected by the NSGIC Conference Committee on a competitive basis.

*NSGIC sponsors have the opportunity to submit an abstract for consideration. Submission acceptance is not guaranteed and no sponsorship points will be required for these competitive slots.*

Workshops:

  • Workshop presentations will be limited to two hours each. Five workshop abstracts will be selected by the NSGIC Conference Committee on a competitive basis.

*NSGIC sponsors have the opportunity to submit an abstract for consideration. Submission acceptance is not guaranteed and no sponsorship points will be required for these competitive slots.*

On-Demand (pre-recorded) Programming:

  • With live programming spanning only three days and several time zones, on-demand content is an important component of the full Midyear Meeting content offering.

  • These pre-recorded presentations will be collected before the start of the event and made available within the NSGIC Learning Link during the Midyear Meeting and afterwards. Content will be available to all NSGIC members, regardless of whether they participate in the Midyear Meeting.

  • Recordings can be up to one hour. Longer isn’t necessarily better - we’ve gotten great feedback on “bite size” presentations that deliver information and insights in under 15 minutes.

*NSGIC sponsors may use points for on-demand presentations. Please contact Bridget Nolan ([email protected]) directly to arrange.*
