Lessons Learned from Hurricane Harvey and a Few Other Assorted Disasters

The 2017 Hurricane Season was particularly active with 7 named tropical storms and 10 hurricanes (6 of them classified as major hurricanes), which tied with the year 1936 as the fifth-most active season since records began in 1851.

This briefing will reflect on some of the lessons learned from the use of GIS technology during the activation of the Texas State Operations Center for Hurricane Harvey (2017), with several of the lessons learned applicable to any type of major natural disaster.
