Partner Spotlight: GeoComm

Accurate GIS data is important throughout 9-1-1 emergency response and has a critical role in NG9-1-1 by determining which Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to route a 9-1-1 call to. This process of geospatial call routing enables better accuracy than traditional 9-1-1 systems and can reduce the number of 9-1-1 calls transferred due to misrouted 9-1-1 calls.

For the last 25 years, GeoComm has been working to help GIS and 9-1-1 teams across the country understand the role GIS plays in 9-1-1 and NG9-1-1, empowering them to achieve public safety grade GIS. Our assess, improve, and maintain proven process tackles the common obstacles agencies face when working to implement an NG9-1-1 system. Because the NG9-1-1 services utilized in this approach are simple and straightforward, they are easily adaptable for jurisdictions of all sizes including local, regional, and statewide.

Most recently with the proliferation of increased wireless location accuracy being delivered via 9-1-1 supplemental location data, the need and value of 2D indoor maps is becoming increasingly important. The detail within a 2D indoor map supplies emergency responders with improved situational awareness to reduce emergency response times. GeoComm is on the forefront of 2D indoor location mapping for 9-1-1 and recently announced a service offering designed to assist our customers in developing 2D indoor maps for use in their emergency response systems.

For the last five years, GeoComm has been participating in NSGIC events and is currently a Gold Level sponsor. During the 2019 Annual Conference in Snowbird, Utah, GeoComm’s John Brosowsky, Vice President of Product Innovation, as well as a 9-1-1 GIS Subject Matter Expert, will be presenting on one of our most recent projects that focused on improving the National Emergency Number Association (NENA) Enhanced PSAP Registry and Census (EPRC). This project which was organized by the NENA and developed in partnership with GeoComm, Esri, and Uber had a goal of improving NENA’s current PSAP registry database contact information for every 9-1-1 center in the nation. The new EPRC provides a secure, scalable, GIS-based hosting platform and with the addition of a map, makes it possible for 9-1-1 personnel to visually search any location in the country to identify PSAP contact information for that location.

GeoComm is prepared to help you plan and prepare your GIS data for 9-1-1 and NG9-1-1 use, providing solutions that meet both industry standards and overcome unique jurisdiction-specific technical needs.
